Pakistan Stock Exchange Sheds 1,000 Points After Hitting 111,000 Benchmark

ISLAMABAD: The record-breaking buying spree at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) finally ended on Tuesday, as the benchmark 100 Index declined by over 1,000 points after hitting the 111,000-point mark for the first time ever.

The trading house recorded a volatile trading session, a gain of over 1,700 points during the opening hours of trading. However, by 2:40 pm, the index had hit an intra-day low of 107,711.40.

At close, the benchmark settled at 108,896.65, showing a decrease of 1,073.73 points or 0.98%.

On Tuesday a total of 1,548,302,320 shares were traded during the day as compared to 1,597,868,204 shares the last trading day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 68.805 billion against Rs. 60.251 billion on the previous working day.

As many as 469 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 106 of them registered gains, and 329 met losses, whereas the share price of 34 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 200,870,859 shares at Rs 1.66 per share, followed by Cnergyico PK with 150,687,962 shares at Rs 6.94 per share whereas K-Electric settled with 73,030,711 shares at Rs.5.91 per share.

Khyber Textile Mills Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.51.61 per share price, closing at Rs.631.88, whereas Attock Refinery Limited was the runner-up with Rs 46.97 rise in its per share price to Rs 588.20.

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited registered a maximum decline of Rs 362.95 per share closing at Rs 20,330.55 followed by Hoechst Pakistan Limited with a fall of Rs 123.13 to close at Rs.2,653.09.

In recent weeks, the market has shown a strong upward trend, driven by positive economic indicators.

As the market continues to climb, investors are hopeful that these positive trends will persist, contributing to sustained growth in Pakistan’s economic markets.

On Monday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reached a new record high as the 100 index soared by over 900 points.
