KARACHI: The Sindh Board of Films Censor (SBFC) has stopped the illegal public screening of the Indian movie ‘Pathan’ which raked in around 400 billion Indian rupees in eight days after its release in India.

Following the media report about illegal movie screenings at different venues at the Defence Housing Authority, the SBFC conducted its investigation to find the pages on social media selling tickets for private movie screenings.

Only films SBFC certifies are allowed for the public or private screening

According to the SBFC, only movies they certify and permit were allowed for public or private screening. “Nobody can produce or organize a cinematograph film exhibition for a public or private event unless the film has acquired the board’s proper certification for a public screening,” the SBFC said.

In light of the board provisions and laws, illegal movie screening can result in fines of up to Rs100,000 and imprisonment for up to three years. The board had asked the company responsible for the screening of the movie to cancel its shows immediately.

Following the warning by SBFC, Fireworks Events canceled all of its private screenings of Pathaan, sources said.
