NEW YORK: Pakistan has stressed the need to modernize United Nations peacekeeping forces by focusing on modern and mission-specific training and technological support.
Ansar Shah, First Secretary at Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN, speaking on an agenda item regarding the review of the peacekeeping operations in the Fourth Committee suggested to make political strategy as part of peacekeeping missions with an objective of resolving the causes of conflict and violence.

He noted that Pakistan has deployed 230,000 peacekeepers in 47 Missions in past sixty years. He said Pakistan has lost 181 peacekeepers in the service of humanity. He paid homage to them along with almost 4400 UN peacekeepers from 125 nations, who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of world peace.
Pakistan became a member of the United Nations (UN) on September 30, 1947, while Pakistan Armed Forces rank as the sixth-largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping efforts across the world.

UN peacekeeping, involves the practice of assisting conflict-torn nations in creating conditions for sustainable peace. UN peacekeepers typically include military officers, regular troops, and civilian personnel from various countries.
They provide services such as observing and monitoring and peace processes in post-war areas and helping former combatants in implementing peace treaties they have signed. These efforts can take various forms, including power-sharing arrangements, confidence-building measures, economic and social development, strengthening the rule of law and electoral support.
It’s important to note that Pakistan is a signatory to numerous UN and international conventions related to global peace and prosperity. As an active member of several UN and international bodies, Pakistan plays a leadership role and contributes valuable policy insights on a wide range of issues affecting humanity, including human rights and environmental protection.
