Pakistan, Tajikistan Security Issues Alike Being Neighbors of Afghanistan: Asif

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that being neighbors of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan encountered similar security issues challenges and threats, including terrorism and drug trafficking from across the border.

Khawaja Asif said that during a meeting with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.

Security issues as neighbors of Afghanistan

He added that Pakistan believes in the peaceful resolution of all issues and appreciates the efforts of Tajikistan for playing a role in promoting peace in the neighboring country Afghanistan and in the region.

Both leaders agreed that Pakistan would continue to provide support in intelligence capacity building and the exchange of technical expertise with the Armed forces of Tajikistan.

They also discussed matters related to bilateral defense cooperation, production, counter-terrorism, and exploration of new outlets for progress and prosperity.

Khwaja Asif proposed friendly sports competitions between the armed forces and the display of military bands on a mutual basis on special events of the two countries.

The President of Tajikistan assured his government’s commitment and vowed to work with Pakistan to strengthen their bilateral ties.
