ISLAMABAD: Pakistan remains the only team yet to announce their preliminary squad for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

As the deadline for submitting the squads to the International Cricket Council (ICC) passed on January 12, the teams are not required to finalize their squads until February 13.

The hosts and defending champions, led by the cricket-mad nation, will make an announcement soon.

New Zealand was the first team to unveil their Champions Trophy squad, and India was the latest to join the list, fuelling speculation about Pakistan’s squad. As the anticipation builds, rumours and updates continue to emerge about the potential team composition.

Potential changes in squad

Sources close to the team suggest that talented Sufiyan Muqeem and Irfan Khan Niazi might be dropped from the line-up in favour of more experienced players.

Star opener, Saim Ayub, sustained an ankle injury in the New Year’s Test against South Africa, casting doubts over his availability for the tournament.

If he fails to regain fitness, the selectors might consider alternative options, including Fakhar Zaman or Imam-ul-Haq.
