Pakistan to Attend an Emergency Meeting of OIC on Oct 18

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has expressed deep concern about the ongoing bloodshed and loss of life in Gaza, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. In a social media statement, he called for an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade in Gaza.

Caretaker Prime Minister Kakar highlighted that Pakistan is actively engaged in close collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and its member states to address the rapidly deteriorating situation in Gaza. He announced that Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is scheduled to participate in an emergency meeting of the OIC’s Executive Committee on October 18, with a primary focus on advocating for urgent measures to alleviate the hardships faced by the people of Gaza.

This exceptional meeting of the OIC’s Executive Committee will convene in the Jeddah Governorate, Saudi Arabia, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat. Prime Minister Kakar unequivocally condemned the actions of Israel, describing them as indiscriminate, deliberate, and disproportionate in their targeting of Gaza’s civilian population. He emphasized that these actions represent a clear violation of international law.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of understanding the outbreak of violence in the context of years of forced and illegal occupation of Palestinian territory and repressive policies against its people.

In his plea to the United Nations (UN) and the international community, Prime Minister Kakar called for immediate action in establishing secure humanitarian passages to facilitate the urgently required relief provisions for the besieged Gaza. This heartfelt appeal echoes the global call for humanitarian intervention to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict.
