ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert that the country will likely experience above-average temperatures during the upcoming summer season.

According to the Met Office, the heat will be more intense than usual from March to May due to lower-than-average rains. According to the PMD, the average day and night temperatures in February were 3 to 5 degrees Celsius higher than normal due to a 77% decrease in rainfall. This has resulted in the possibility of additional heat, with temperatures higher than normal predicted not only for March but also for April and May.

Temperatures expected to be even higher this year

Previously, the average temperature in March was up to 26°C, with a slight increase observed the previous year. However, temperatures are expected to be even higher this year, with the PMD predicting an intense heat wave in the coming months. During the summer, the PMD has advised people to take the necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and to stay hydrated. The department has also urged the government to take the necessary steps to mitigate the effects of the heat wave and reduce the population’s impact.

As Pakistan prepares for the upcoming summer season, authorities and citizens alike must remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from the expected extreme temperatures.
