ISLAMABAD: The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as Pakistan Women gear up to face Sri Lanka Women in the second semi-final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 on Friday (July 26).
Pakistan’s journey to the semi-finals has been marked by a blend of resilience and skill, overcoming initial setbacks to secure their place among the final four teams. After a defeat to India, Pakistan bounced back strongly with commanding victories over Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, showcasing their determination and improving form throughout the tournament.
Led by captain Nida Dar, Pakistan’s team morale is high as they prepare to take on the hosts Sri Lanka. “After the initial setback, we regained our momentum and are showing signs of improvement,” said Nida Dar. “We are fully determined to give our best performance in the semi-final.”
Pakistan’s batting has been bolstered by the dynamic opening pair of Gul Feroza and Muneeba Ali, who have consistently provided solid starts. Meanwhile, their bowling attack, featuring stalwarts like Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sundhu, Tuba Hassan, and Syeda Aroob Shah, has been pivotal in restricting opponents and claiming crucial wickets.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka enters the semi-final unbeaten in the group stage, buoyed by impressive performances across all departments. Captain Chamari Athapaththu has led from the front with her commanding batting displays, supported by the spin prowess of Kavisha Dilhari, who has been instrumental with her match-winning spells.
Pakistan will aim to adopt an aggressive strategy against Sri Lanka, looking to unsettle the hosts early on and secure a spot in the tournament final.
