ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed that the country’s government will fully implement the counterterrorism strategy outlined by Parliament, vowing to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Addressing a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, the prime minister stressed that there is no place for terrorism on Pakistan’s soil and pledged to take all necessary measures to eliminate it.

The in-camera session, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, was attended by key civil and military leaders, including Army Chief General Asim Munir, federal cabinet members, and parliamentary leaders of various political parties.

However, Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen (TTA), associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), boycotted the session.

During the meeting at Parliament House, the prime minister reiterated that the nation stands united against terrorism and that Pakistan will not waver in its resolve to defeat it.

He paid tribute to the martyrs and security forces for their sacrifices, stating, “We will never forget the sacrifices of our martyrs. We pay tribute to our security forces who are relentlessly fighting this war.”

PM Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted ongoing economic improvements and assured that law and order would be maintained.

He emphasised that the political leadership remains united on national security matters and committed to eliminating terrorism.

The meeting followed a recent terrorist attack in which militants blew up a railway track and opened fire on the Jaffar Express, taking hostages and engaging in a standoff with security forces.

Terrorists had positioned suicide bombers near hostages, using them as human shields.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they had taken control of the train.

However, security forces successfully carried out an operation, killing all 33 terrorists and rescuing the hostages.
