Pakistan to Implement Visa-Free Facility for Iraqi Citizens: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday met with a high-level Iraqi delegation led by Lieutenant General Dr. Tahmeir Ismail, Commander of Iraq’s Rapid Response Unit.

During the meeting, they discussed several key issues, including the proposal to avoid confiscating passports from Pakistani pilgrims in Iraq and enhancing the facilities provided to them.

They also discussed the training of Iraqi police in Pakistan, collaboration on the Safe City project, and strengthening efforts to combat illegal immigration and human smuggling.

Naqvi underscored the need for prompt action on the passport issue and expressed hope that the Iraqi government would make a timely decision.

Lieutenant General Ismail assured that the matter of passport retention would be discussed with the DG Passport, expressing optimism about reaching a resolution. He emphasized the respect and hospitality extended to Pakistani visitors.

The Iraqi delegation extended an invitation to Minister Naqvi to visit Iraq.

Naqvi said that Pakistan would soon implement a visa-free facility for Iraqi citizens. He committed to full cooperation in police training and the Safe City project.

The Iraqi delegation included Brigadier General Aqeel Kazim, Commander of the Protection Regiment, Brigadier General Abdul Hussain, and Muhammad Suhail, among others.

Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha and MD NRTC Brigadier Muhammad Asim were also present during the meeting.
