ISLAMABAD: The moon for the Holy month of Ramadan was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan thus the fasting will begin on March 02.
The moon sighting committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, convened in Peshawar on Friday made the announcement.
The holy month, which is observed with religious fervour and zeal, will see millions of Pakistanis along with billions of Muslims around the world observing a fast from dawn to sunset.
A day earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecast partly cloudy conditions across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, over the next 24 hours. “Due to cloudy weather, the chance of sighting the Ramadan moon is low,” the department said.
Meanwhile, the crescent has been sighted in New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia thus the holy month in these countries will begin on Saturday, March 01, 2025.
Saudi Arabia on Friday announced the sighting of the crescent marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in the kingdom. People in Saudi Arabia will observe their first fast tomorrow (Saturday).
Saudi Arabia is usually the first country to see the moon for Islamic months, which is followed by other Arab, Middle Eastern, and Western countries and some parts of India.
However, the crescent moon of Ramadan was not sighted in India and the Philippines so Ramadan in these countries will start from March 02, 2025.
Earlier, the Saudi Supreme Court called on all Muslims in the country to sight the Ramadan moon tomorrow evening.
Streets and public spaces across Saudi Arabia have been brightly adorned with festive decorations of illuminating crescents and lanterns, reflecting the joy and anticipation of citizens and residents as they prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.
The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance has completed preparations across Ramadan, with thousands of mosques and prayer spaces ready to welcome worshippers in a peaceful and enhanced environment.
Many mosques have been renovated to improve their facilities, enabling worshippers to perform their religious observances in an atmosphere of tranquillity and devotion.
In the holy month of Ramadan Muslims spend more time in prayer and reading the Holy Quran. During this month many mosques offer additional services, including Taraweeh prayers, which are special nightly prayers that are longer than the usual daily prayers.
