BEIJING, China: Pakistan has announced its plan to acquire FC-31 stealth fighter jets from China, a strategic move expected to significantly enhance the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) while opening new international markets for Chinese military technology.

According to Global Times China, PAF’s modernization initiative confirmed that the FC-31 will be the cornerstone of its transformation to a fifth-generation air force.

The FC-31, developed by China’s state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC), is a single-seat, twin-engine stealth fighter, designed to rival the US F-35.

Military analysts highlight the jet’s stealth capabilities, advanced situational awareness, and versatile armament options, making it a formidable addition to Pakistan’s air defence arsenal. The FC-31 can engage in air-to-air combat and deliver precision strikes against ground targets, providing a significant technological edge.

Pakistan’s decision to integrate the FC-31 is consistent with its long-standing use of Chinese military hardware, including the J-10C and JF-17 fighter jets, as well as advanced missile systems and radar technology. The acquisition is expected to bolster Pakistan’s air capabilities, especially in comparison to its regional rivals, who are unlikely to obtain similar fifth-generation fighter jets soon.

For China, this deal represents a strategic victory, potentially opening doors to new markets, particularly in the Middle East. As Pakistan incorporates the FC-31 into joint military exercises, the aircraft’s performance could attract further international interest, solidifying China’s position as a leading global arms supplier.
