Pakistan to Receive More Monsoon Rains from Today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating the imminent arrival of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, expected to penetrate the upper and central regions of the country today (Tuesday).

These weather patterns are predicted to intensify on July 19, resulting in widespread rainfall throughout Pakistan.

All relevant authorities have been strongly advised to remain on high alert during this forecasted period, as the nation finds itself in the midst of another perilous monsoon season, which has already claimed the lives of nearly 100 individuals since June 25.

According to the latest advisory from the PMD, the forthcoming weather systems are anticipated to bring about rain, wind, and thunderstorms, accompanied by heavy precipitation.

Cities to receive Rains

The regions likely to be affected include Kashmir (specifically Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (encompassing Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar), as well as Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Nowshera, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, D.I Khan, Bannu, Karak, and Waziristan.

This weather activity is projected to persist from the evening of July 18 until July 23, intermittently.

Furthermore, there is an expected occurrence of rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad from the night of July 19 to July 21, with intermittent periods of respite.

In Sindh, the PMD advisory highlights the likelihood of dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall (including isolated heavy falls) in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu districts, commencing from the evening or night of July 19 and continuing until July 23.

The advisory further states that dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall (including isolated heavy falls) are expected in Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi districts from July 20 to July 22, with intermittent periods of respite.

The PMD has cautioned that the anticipated heavy rainfall could potentially result in urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from the night of July 18 until July 22. Moreover, the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may be susceptible to landslides during this period.
