Pakistan, UAE Eager to Enhance Strategic Cooperation: Ambassador

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi has welcomed the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He highlighted the shared eagerness of both nations to bolster their strategic cooperation and foster economic, commercial, and development integration for a more promising future.

During an interview with a news channel, Ambassador Tirmizi revealed that several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, particularly in the fields of energy, banking, civil aviation, and more. The focus areas of the Prime Minister’s visit include energy, aviation, ports, food security, and banking sectors. The discussions will encompass a review of the progress in bilateral relations following the signing of landmark trade agreements.

Ambassador Tirmizi underlined the abundant economic potential and distinguished opportunities that could arise from strengthening the strategic partnership between Pakistan and the UAE. He emphasized the significance of increasing joint investments and highlighting promising sectors to investors in both countries.

The bilateral trade between Pakistan and the UAE currently stands at $10 billion, with immense potential for further growth. The ambassador noted that over 1.8 million Pakistanis are contributing to the UAE’s workforce, and there is a continued need for skilled workers in various sectors.

Expressing gratitude for the Emirati support, Ambassador Tirmizi stated that Pakistan warmly welcomes this brotherly gesture and is keenly interested in attracting significant investments from the UAE. He stressed the importance of consistency in economic policies, regardless of changes in government, to maintain stability and attract foreign investments.

Additionally, Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted that Prime Minister Kakar will lead the Pakistani delegation at the COP-28 summit, addressing the critical issue of climate change. Pakistan, having played a leading role in international environmental discussions, sees the summit as timely for countries like itself grappling with the challenges of climate change.

The ambassador reiterated the need for consistency in economic policies to attract foreign investments and ensure sustained growth, irrespective of changes in government.
