ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Thursday to strengthen economic cooperation.
The agreements were finalised during the official visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Pakistan.
Both sides exchanged documents regarding MoUs for cooperation in various fields including mining, railways, banking and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, President Zardari conferred the “Nishan-e-Pakistan” on the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince in recognition of his services for bringing the two nations closer and taking Pak-UAE ties to new heights.
Earlier the Crown Prince was received by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on arrival at Nur Khan Airbase.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers and senior officials, as well as prominent business leaders.
The Crown Prince is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, said a statement issued by the foreign office.
“This visit underscores the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and reflects the shared commitment to further strengthen bilateral economic partnership,” said the statement.
During the visit, the Crown Prince will engage in wide-ranging interactions with the leadership of Pakistan, to exchange views on matters of mutual interest, reinforce historical bonds, and promote economic as well as investment cooperation.
The foreign office said several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding will be signed during the visit to bolster the existing robust framework for long-term collaboration in multifaceted sectors.
“These commitments are expected to open new opportunities for joint ventures and projects aimed at furthering economic cooperation between both the countries and their peoples,” it said.
Pakistan and the UAE have always enjoyed a relationship characterized by mutual respect, trust, and shared aspirations.
The visit of Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan demonstrates the commitment of the two countries to elevate the mutual cooperation, reflective of growing partnership and robust people-to-people linkages.
Earlier this month Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a two-day official visit to the UAE to participate in the World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai.
During the visit, he met with UAE leadership and invited UAE businesses to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, mining, and IT.
The UAE remains one of Pakistan’s key economic and strategic partners, with strong collaboration across multiple sectors.
Pakistani diaspora in the UAE, which is the second largest Pakistani expatriate community worldwide, continues to play a pivotal role in the development and success of both countries, serving as a bridge between the two nations.
