BEIJING: Pakistan, under the leadership of newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the new government, could achieve a greater accomplishment in the cause of national development, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
During a regular briefing, spokesperson Mao Ning expressed confidence in Pakistan’s potential under Prime Minister Shehbaz and the new government, highlighting the prospects for enhanced nation-building efforts. “We believe that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz and the new administration, Pakistan can achieve a greater agreement in nation building, ” Mao Ning said during her regular briefing in response to a question asked by APP.
The spokesperson congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on assuming the office of prime minister, noting that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang had sent congratulatory messages to him.
Pakistan-China Bilateral Relations
Mao Ning commended the positive remarks made by the Pakistani prime minister regarding bilateral relations and the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). “We commend his positive statement regarding China-Pakistan relations and CPEC,” she remarked.
The spokesperson expressed optimism about Pakistan’s collaboration with China for the high-quality construction of CPEC, emphasizing the advancement of the China-Pakistan all-weather cooperative partnership to strengthen their shared future and deliver more benefits to both nations.
The announcement comes as Shehbaz Sharif, the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), secured 201 votes in the National Assembly of Pakistan, marking his second tenure as prime minister. In his inaugural speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz vowed to enhance ties with China and accelerate the implementation of CPEC projects.
