ISLAMABAD: The latest UN Security Council report has validated Pakistan’s claims that Afghanistan serves as a sanctuary for terrorist groups, including the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and “Fitna al-Khawarij.”

According to a statement from Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the report highlights concerns that the TTP, with its new recruits, is being trained in Afghanistan and could evolve into a broader regional threat.

During her briefing in Islamabad, Baloch called on the Afghan government to take immediate and effective measures to combat these terrorist groups, emphasizing that Afghanistan should prevent its territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. The spokesperson stressed the importance of robust action to address this security threat.

In addition to addressing terrorism, Baloch also criticized Israel for its recent actions, including the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

She condemned such extraterritorial acts as violations of international law and norms, warning that they could lead to further regional escalation. Baloch urged the international community, especially Israel’s backers, to hold Israel accountable and to advocate for an end to its aggressive military operations.

Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

She also addressed the situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, urging India to reverse its actions taken since August 5, 2019, and to work towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute in line with Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
