ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has vowed to continue positive engagement with the new US administration as president-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House on January 20.
According to a statement issued by the foreign office on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar expressed these views during a meeting with the outgoing US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome who made a farewell call on him.
“The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Blome on completing his tenure in Pakistan and appreciated his role in strengthening Pakistan-US relations,” the statement said.
Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar expressed the Government of Pakistan’s resolve to continue positive engagement with the new US Administration.
Last week, Ambassador Blome had met with Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and highlighted prospects of boosting trade between Pakistan and the US in the IT and digital services sectors.
The minister acknowledged the key role of the US as Pakistan’s largest trading partner and a major market for Pakistani goods and services.
Ambassador Donald Blome expressed his appreciation for the strong and enduring ties between the United States and Pakistan and reiterated the US commitment to continue supporting Pakistan’s economic reforms and growth.
The Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Islamabad Natalie A Baker had promised her country’s help to Pakistan in addressing Pakistan’s economic challenges.
“The US Mission is facilitating investment in Pakistan through diplomacy and policy as Pakistan looks to move beyond the economic crisis and implement difficult but necessary structural economic reforms to realise a more prosperous future,” Baker told a conference organised by the Pakistan-America Business Forum and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Following Donald Trump’s landslide victory in the US presidential election, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his congratulatory message, had said that he is looking forward to working closely with the incoming Administration to further strengthen and broaden the Pakistan-US partnership.
