Pakistan Vows to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Friday reiterated the commitment of his government on achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and extended complete cooperation in this regard.

The minister was speaking to the Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Knut Ostby, in Islamabad.

Ishaq Dar lauded the key role of UNDP as development partner in order to achieve the SDGs. The minister welcomed Knut Ostby and thanked him on behalf of the Steering Committee on Climate Resilient Pakistan for being a partner in taking flood relief steps in the South Asian country.

The Minister also appreciated the joint efforts of the UN body and Planning Division for preparing a constructive roadmap for reconstruction of flood-hit areas which was tabled at Geneva Conference in January.

He further said that it was due to the timely support of UNDP that Islamabad was able to garner cooperation from several partners. Ishaq Dar thanked the UN official for his cooperation and support.

On the occasion, Knut Ostby also briefed the finance minister on the current institutional arrangements being made by UNDP for long-, medium-, and short-term goals about the Climate Resilient Pakistan rehabilitation and recovery roadmap in flood-affected parts of the country.

He asked Ishaq Dar to include the private sector to further accelerate, and catch up with the SDGs-linked projects.
