ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Taekwondo team made history by winning the prestigious 6th Asian Open (Kyorugi) Taekwondo Championship in Indonesia, securing a remarkable three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
This is the first time Pakistani male and female athletes have achieved this milestone in an international taekwondo event held abroad, according to a press release from the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation.
Pakistan’s dominant performance earned them the top spot on the podium, followed by Kazakhstan in second place and Malaysia in third.
In addition to the team’s overall victory, they were awarded the Best Team title, while Shahzaib was named Best Athlete of the competition. Pakistan’s coach, Yousef Karami, received the Best Coach award for guiding the team to its stellar performance.

On the occasion, Lt. Col. (R) Raja Wasim Ahmed, President of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, Omar Saeed, CEO, and Patron-in-Chief Kooboong Kim all congratulated the team on their outstanding performance at the mega event. They praised the athletes for their hard work and dedication, which led to this historic achievement on the international stage.
