Pakistani Calligraphers Celebrate Rabi-ul-Awwal with Exhibition

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) hosted a calligraphy exhibition called ‘Mehar-e-Qalam’ to celebrate the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal with religious fervor.

The exhibition featured a wide range of calligraphic styles, from traditional to contemporary, and conveyed the spiritual significance of the holy month. The event showcased the exceptional works of calligraphers including M. Ashraf Heera, M. Jamal Muhsin, Waseem Ashraf Wasi, Shabbir Zia, Arif Khan, and Aslam Dogar.

The exhibition was inaugurated on September 19 by Caretaker Minister for National Heritage and DG PNCA M. Ayoub Jamali, with a soft opening on September 20 where DG-PNCA distributed certificates of appreciation to the participating artists.

DG-PNCA expressed his gratitude to the Visual Arts team and participants for their dedication, creativity, and commitment to calligraphy. He anticipated the exhibition’s great success.

Significance of Rabi-ul-Awwal

This visual feast paid homage to the profound significance of the month of Rab-ul-Awal. Visitors had the opportunity to admire Arabic calligraphy’s beauty, witness the fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, and experience the spiritual depth of each piece.

The exhibition also provided a platform for attendees to engage with artists and discuss the importance of calligraphy in Islamic art. It offered a valuable chance to immerse in Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.
