Pakistani Film Wins at Cannes World Film Festival

KARACHI: A Pakistani short film, ‘Noor,’ won the best health film award in the January online edition of the Cannes World Film Festival, media reported on Wednesday. The film tackles the stigma of weak eyesight. The director of the film expressed happiness over the award and said that there was always a room for good educational stuff in the cinema. The film ‘Noor,’ was written by Farah Usman, and it features Omair Rana, Sarwat Gilani, Mizna Waqas, Tanisha Shameem, and Tasneem Ansari. However, the 17-minute short Pakistani film features a child artist in the main role.

The film director, Umer Adil told the Arab news that the film highlights the impact on children of not wearing glasses. He added that it is a story about a young girl Noor. He added that Noor is a good student but faces several issues when her eyesight starts to weaken. The story is about the stigma related to glasses, he remarked.  Adil added that the film has received very good feedback and people lauded the work of the child star in the film.

The Cannes World Film Festival announced via its social media account that ‘Noor’ had been nominated for the award.

Another Pakistani short film ‘Pehchaan’ was also nominated for the January Edition at the Cannes World Film Festival but did not win the award.
