Pakistani Govt Announces Public Holidays in Capital for SCO Summit

ISLAMABD: The Pakistani government has announced three public holidays in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the occasion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

According to a notification issued by Cabinet Division, public holidays will be observed from October 14 to 16, coinciding with the SCO summit scheduled for October 15 and 16 in Islamabad. All educational institutions, including schools, as well as government offices, will remain closed during this period.

The summit will see participation from representatives of member countries, including Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, along with leaders from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Iran.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Interior to discuss preparations for the upcoming SCO Summit. The meeting included top officials such as the Federal Secretary for Interior, Additional Secretaries, Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, IG Police, Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Commandant of the Frontier Corps, Sector Commander of Pakistan Rangers, and representatives from various security agencies.

During the meeting, security arrangements for the SCO Summit were reviewed in detail. The interior minister approved a comprehensive security plan, emphasizing the importance of hosting the summit and the attendance of multiple heads of state.

Naqvi described it as an honor for the entire nation and mentioned that special arrangements would be made for beautification and cleanliness in Islamabad in preparation for the conference.

To ensure security, additional personnel from the Pakistan Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps, and Punjab Police will be deployed. Naqvi stressed the need for all relevant departments to cooperate fully, highlighting that the peaceful and successful conduct of the summit depends on their collective efforts.
