Pakistani Govt Forms Committees to Review Civil, Criminal, NAB Laws

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has emphasized that delivering speedy and affordable justice is a top priority for the current government.

During the National Assembly’s Question Hour today, he detailed that the government has established three task forces to review civil, criminal, and NAB laws. Additionally, a Special Committee has been formed to create a legal aid mechanism for the underprivileged and vulnerable segments of society.

Minister Tarar noted that his ministry is actively reviewing various laws to ensure that justice is both cost-effective and prompt. The Prime Minister has also set up a Legal Reform Committee, chaired by the Minister for Law and Justice, to oversee these efforts.

Tarar further highlighted that the government is implementing several reforms in collaboration with the judiciary to minimize delays and improve the efficiency of the justice system.

In response to a Calling Attention notice, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui assured that students of Allama Iqbal Open University will be included in the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme. However, he mentioned that the final decision on this matter has not yet been made.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif praised Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for fostering a harmonious working relationship among lawmakers and maintaining the sanctity of Parliament. He emphasized the importance of continuing the practice of issuing production orders for opposition members.

Asif called for introspection to improve tolerance and address past mistakes.

Opposition Leader Umar Ayub also commended the Speaker for issuing production orders for opposition members.

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman called for judicial reforms to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly to ordinary citizens and vulnerable groups. He stressed the importance of involving the opposition in these discussions.

Fazlur Rehman acknowledged Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s efforts in issuing production orders and urged for collective efforts to uphold the integrity of Parliament.
