KARACHI: The Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Karachi, Bakhit Atiq Al-Rumaiti, has underscored Pakistan’s potential to enhance the value and reach of its mango industry through value addition.
Speaking at the Future Summit in Karachi, Al-Rumaiti said that investors from the UAE receive facilitation upon arrival, but Pakistani investors face some challenges in UAE such as visa issues and additional expenses. He stressed the need to facilitate investors wherever possible.
The Consul General stated that Pakistan has excellent mango production, which has high demand in Dubai. He said that Pakistani mangoes are sold in Dubai for $10 but, after repackaging, the fruit is sold at $120.
He noted this highlights the need for value addition in the agricultural sector of Pakistan, which requires joint effort from both government and stakeholders.

He said that as the UAE has shifted its focus to economic growth instead of political issues, any Pakistani seeking investment opportunities in the UAE will be directed to the relevant ministry for assistance.
