Pakistani Mountaineer Naila Kiani Becomes First Woman to Scale Nanga Parbat

ISLAMABAD: In a remarkable achievement, renowned Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani has become the first Pakistani woman to successfully scale Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain on Earth. The treacherous ascent of the 8,126-meter peak, also known as the ‘Killer Mountain’ due to its high fatality rate, poses significant challenges with unstable glaciers, avalanches, and storms.

The Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Karrar Haidri, confirmed Kiani’s summit, stating, “Today on July 2, 2023, at 10:18 am, Naila Kiani scaled the majestic Nanga Parbat, standing tall at an inspirational height of 8,126 meters.” He further added, “She did this to become the first Pakistani woman to climb Nanga Parbat. Naila has now conquered seven of the massive 8,000-meter peaks around the world, establishing herself as one of the most talented climbers of our time.”

Naila Kiani’s Accomplishments

Kiani’s previous accomplishments include scaling renowned mountains such as Everest, K2, Lhotse, Annapurna, G1, and G2, showcasing her unwavering resolve, unmatched abilities, and unwavering attitude. Her determination serves as a shining example of overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles and inspires mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts worldwide.

In a separate achievement, Sajid Sadpara, another notable Pakistani mountaineer and son of the legendary Ali Sadpara, successfully climbed Nanga Parbat without the assistance of supplementary oxygen and sherpas. Sajid aims to conquer all 14 eight-thousanders without using supplemental oxygen. He has already summited K2, Gasherbrum-I, Gasherbrum-II in Pakistan, as well as Manaslu in Nepal without supplemental oxygen. In May 2023, Sajid also successfully climbed Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, without the support of supplementary oxygen and assistance from Sherpas.
