LAHORE: Pakistani women police officer Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi is likely to take on a significant role within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). According to local media reports, she is being considered for the position of Head of Pakistan Women’s Cricket.
ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, who gained national attention earlier this year for rescuing a woman from mob, is an Assistant Superintendent in the Punjab Police. Her courageous actions have earned her both national and international accolades.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who served as Punjab’s interim Chief Minister during Shehrbano’s notable intervention, is favoring her for this leadership role, influenced by her exemplary public service record from his time in office.
PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer remarked, “Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick were key members of the PCB management team, making meaningful contributions to our progress as an organization. Sohaib was part of the core team that launched the HBL PSL in 2016, successfully delivering four seasons, and he returned to produce another high-quality event earlier this year.”
The position has been vacant since Tania’s resignation in October 2021, and the PCB is actively evaluating candidates to fill this leadership role.
Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi first rose to prominence earlier this year when she bravely handled a high-profile incident at Lahore’s Ichhra Bazaar, rescuing a woman under attack in a crowded market. This act of courage garnered her widespread praise and significantly elevated her profile throughout the country.
The PCB is keen to fill the vacancy left by Tania and views Shehrbano’s experience and leadership potential as valuable assets for the development of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
