ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Thursday denied receiving any letter from the country’s ex-prime minister Imran Khan, following claims by PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry that a third letter had been sent.
Speaking informally to journalists during a luncheon hosted for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Prime Minister’s House, the Army Chief said, “I have not received any letter from anyone, and even if I do, I will send it to the Prime Minister.”
General Asim Munir noted that the country was progressing satisfactorily and Pakistan was on the path of development. “Pakistan is moving forward and Pakistan has to move forward,” the army chief added.
The statement comes just days after PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry claimed that Imran Khan had sent a third letter to the army chief expressing concerns over the conduct of the general elections in the country.
Chaudhry mentioned that Imran Khan had shared the contents of the letter with PTI leadership, outlining six key points saying the letter addressed the need for extensive structural reforms, the government’s actions, and other significant matters.
Earlier Imran Khan had penned two open letters to the army chief on February 3 and February 8.
In December last year, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that no political leader’s desire for power should be more important than Pakistan’s interests.
“All political parties and leaders are respectable to us. No individual, his politics, and his desire for power are above Pakistan,” he said during a media briefing.
