ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar is set to attend a special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly to address the situation following the recent verdict of the Indian Supreme Court on the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The decision to attend the special session was made during a meeting between PM Kakar and AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq at the PM House.

PM Kakar strongly conveyed Pakistan’s rejection of the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian government. Emphasizing that the IIOJK dispute, persisting for seven decades, can only be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, he underscored the need for international adherence to established laws.

Highlighting India’s violation of international laws, PM Kakar pointed out the unilateral actions taken by India on August 5, 2019, wherein it illegally revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, a move perceived as an attempt to alter the demographics of the region.

Expressing Pakistan’s unwavering commitment, PM Kakar affirmed that political, diplomatic, and moral support would persistently be extended to the people of Kashmir, aligning with their fundamental right to self-determination. The upcoming session is expected to provide a platform for comprehensive discussions on the implications and responses to the recent developments in the IIOJK region.
