ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s civil and military leadership on Tuesday underscored the urgent need to fully implement the National Action Plan (NAP) to dismantle terrorist networks, curb logistical support, and break the nexus between terrorism and organised crime.

The resolve was expressed during an in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security at Parliament House, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

The high-level meeting was convened amid surge in incidents of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

According to an official statement issued after the meeting, the Parliamentary Committee on National Security strongly condemned recent acts of terrorism and expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.

The committee reiterated the state’s firm resolve to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Asim Malik, along with federal ministers, chief ministers of all four provinces, and senior law enforcement and intelligence officials.

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security acknowledged the bravery and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies in conducting counterterrorism operations.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to dealing with terrorist groups with an “iron hand” and stressed the need for national consensus on counterterrorism efforts.

“The implementation of the National Action Plan and the Resilience Strategy is crucial to dismantling terrorist networks, countering logistical support, and disrupting the nexus of terrorism and crime,” the statement read.

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security also raised concerns over the increasing misuse of social media platforms by terrorist groups to spread propaganda, recruit followers, and coordinate attacks.

The committee called for concrete measures to curb the digital networks of terrorists and disrupt their ability to operate online.

Reiterating full support for Pakistan’s armed forces, police, Frontier Constabulary, and intelligence agencies, the committee acknowledged their sacrifices in defending the nation.

“The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with our security forces in this fight against terrorism,” the statement emphasised.
