UNITED NATION: Pakistan has shown its firm pledge to multilateralism, saying that Islamabad believes in central principles of sovereign equivalence, non-interference and non-intervention, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon made this statement in a debate at the UN General Assembly.

The discussion was titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”.

Recognizing the rights of the Cubans to their own means of sustenance especially food and medicine, he said ending the ban on Cuba would be a significant step towards improving the quality of life for the Cuban people, and will help Cuba advance on the path towards justifiable progress.

He expressed a deep concern on the impact that the monetary, economic and marketable bans has had on Cuba and its people.

The official maintained that the imposition of unilateral economic measures is counterproductive and inconsistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
