ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar expressed serious concerns on Tuesday regarding the world’s double standards in addressing the humanitarian crises affecting the people of Gaza and Beirut, as well as the ongoing Israeli actions that he described as genocidal.
Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the 101st Republic Day of Turkiye, he characterized the situation in Gaza as a grave injustice in modern history. He urged the international community to take urgent action to halt the Israeli campaigns in the occupied Palestinian territories and its provocations beyond those borders.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Turkiye on the issues in Gaza and Beirut, condemning Israel’s terrorist actions. He emphasized that both nations support the Palestinians in their inalienable right to freedom and advocate for the establishment of a viable, contiguous, and independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Shareef as its capital.
He highlighted the global challenges of security threats, climate change, rising Islamophobia, and socioeconomic struggles that require unity and collective efforts. Dar noted that Pakistan and Turkiye share similar views on these pressing issues.
Regarding bilateral relations, he affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its ties with Turkiye, highlighting mutual support on global platforms, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He expressed solidarity with Turkiye in light of the recent terrorist attack in Ankara and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support in combating terrorism.
Dar praised the remarkable journey of the Republic of Turkiye as an inspiration for all, noting the close affinities between the two nations. He acknowledged Turkiye’s assistance during natural disasters, such as devastating earthquakes and floods, as well as its support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also referenced Turkiye’s backing for Pakistan’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed optimism that the fraternal ties between the two countries would continue to grow, as Pakistan has consistently supported Turkiye on its core issues, including the fight against terrorism, while Turkiye has raised concerns for the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on various global platforms.
Dar said that the recent appointment of a permanent envoy on Islamophobia by the OIC, a result of their joint efforts earlier this year. He extended his warmest wishes to the people and leadership of Turkiye on this significant day and prayed for their progress and prosperity.
