ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday forecast strong monsoon currents expected to penetrate into upper regions of the country from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center warned that these monsoon currents could bring widespread rainfall across various parts of the country over the next 24 hours, persisting until July 27.
Specifically, thunderstorms and rain are anticipated tonight along the coastal areas of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Islamkot, among others.
Moreover, the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) projected heavy to moderate rainfall in southern Punjab’s Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan, Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, regions such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan, as well as areas in Gilgit Baltistan, are expected to experience heavy to moderate rainfall.
NDMA advised the public to take necessary precautions against potential flooding, landslides in mountainous areas, rising water levels in streams and rivers, and urban flood situations.
Emergency Response Teams have been alerted, and resources are being mobilized to ensure swift responses to any emergencies that may arise.
The authority also cautioned tourists to avoid traveling to these areas during the forecasted period and advised the public to stay vigilant, follow instructions from local authorities, and stay informed through the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app for timely updates and alerts on weather conditions.
