ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s export of goods and services to Afghanistan witnessed 3.63% increase during the first half of the current fiscal year (2023-24) compared to the same period last year, reported by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
According to SBP data, exports to Afghanistan totaled US $260.716 million from July to December 2023-24, compared to US $251.580 million during the corresponding period in 2022-23.
Year-on-year, exports to Afghanistan decreased by 26.83%, dropping from $38.297 million in December 2022 to $28.019 million in December 2023.
Month-on-month, exports to Afghanistan also declined by 46.02% in December 2023 compared to $51.911 million in November 2023.
Overall, Pakistan’s exports to other countries increased by 4.99% in the first six months, rising from US $14.222 billion to US $15.288 billion, according to SBP data.
Conversely, imports from Afghanistan to Pakistan during the same period were recorded at US $4.425 million, down from US $13.253 million last year, marking a 66.61% decline in July-December 2023-24.
Year-on-year, imports from Afghanistan decreased by 28.39%, falling from US $1.729 million in December 2022 to US $1.238 million in December 2023.
Month-on-month, imports from Afghanistan experienced a marginal decrease of 3.95% in December 2023 compared to US $1.289 million in November 2023, according to the data.
Overall imports into Pakistan declined by 14.69%, from US $29.588 billion to US $25.241 billion, according to the data.
