ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Tuesday directed to make a comprehensive strategy in order to avert prolonged power outages in the future by fixing the faults in the national grid system.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, also approved an across-the-country public awareness drive about the conservation of power, gas, and water to sensitize the people to the importance and preservation of natural resources.
The meeting called for the inclusion of the discipline of best international practices on energy conservation in the educational curriculum.
The participants agreed that energy conservation efforts at all levels, including public, private, commercial, and domestic, would help reduce the petroleum products import bill, which has increased heavily in the last seven years.
The participants were of the view that behavioral changes would also save foreign exchange reserves worth billions of dollars and reduce the electricity bills of people by 30 to 40%.
PM expresses annoyance over widespread power outage
The premier expressed annoyance over the widespread power breakdown on Monday and said that the inconvenience caused to the public was unacceptable and would not be tolerated in the future.
He directed to identify the factors behind the prolonged power outage and take necessary steps to prevent its recurrence.
