ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s “fleet-footed” Israr Khattak secured a stunning victory in the full marathon category of the 5th Islamabad Marathon, held on Sunday against the picturesque backdrop of the Margalla Hills.
Organized by Islamabad Run with Us (IRU), the event witnessed over 3,000 participants, including international athletes, diplomats, and fitness enthusiasts, making it a celebration of sportsmanship and endurance.
Humble and gracious Khattak is known across Pakistan in the running circles for his extraordinary stamina, unparalleled pace and disciplined approach.
The marathon, which tested runners on a challenging route with steep inclines, featured four categories: the full marathon (42.2 km), a half marathon, a 10 km race, and a 5 km race.
Sohail Amir emerged victorious in the half marathon, Mohammad Ikram triumphed in the 10 km race, and Atiq ur Rehman claimed first place in the 5 km category.
In the women’s full marathon, a Norwegian athlete delivered an outstanding performance to take the top spot.

Among those who finished the full marathon, a distance of 42.2 kilometres, was 13-year-old Ahmad Abdullah.
Abdullah’s participation, along with his proud father and siblings, served as an inspiring example of family commitment to fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

The event drew praise from international athletes for its scenic route and smooth execution. A participant from the UK shared her excitement, saying, “This is my first time running in Pakistan, and the atmosphere, combined with the weather, has been incredible.”
A participant from Denmark lauded the event, calling it “a wonderful initiative for promoting fitness and fostering unity.”
The 5th Islamabad Marathon celebrated athletic excellence, camaraderie, and the scenic charm of Pakistan’s capital. It reaffirmed Islamabad’s potential as a host for world-class sporting events.
