ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik backed the current captain of the Pakistan cricket team Babar Azam, saying that he should be awarded enough time to prove his skills and abilities as captain.

Babar Azam, who has been facing a lot of criticism for his captaincy, has garnered support and backing from several former and current players. He is currently leading the Men in Greenin all game formats.

While talking to local media in Lahore, Malik said that Babar Azam is a young captain and fresh blood, and one can’t learn the art of captaincy in a short span of time.

Babar Azam’s role in Pakistan cricket

“Babar Azam is a renowned name in Pakistan cricket, and he should be given a fair and complete chance to prove his skills. This is also crucial in terms of making a solid Pakistan team.

“If he makes mistakes, we should guide him instead of doing unnecessary bashing and criticism, Malik said.

Saleem Malik also appreciated the stylish opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, who smashed a third consecutive hundred to guide his side to a seven-wicket victory over the Black Caps in the second ODI of the five-match series played in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

“Fakhar Zaman played really superbly, and this is a key reason why I have always said that he should be a permanent member of the playing XI,” Malik said.

“The pitches in Rawalpindi were conducive and friendly for batting, but I don’t think that the same could happen in Karachi. Spinners will play a significant role in Karachi, and I don’t think that we will observe big totals,” he opined.

The 60-year-old former middle-order batter also hoped that Pakistan would good cricket during the upcoming ICC (International Cricket Council) World Cup to be played in India this year.
