ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Interior Minister, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, on Thursday said that the General Elections 2024 would be held on February 8 as per the schedule, adding that the government will ensure all possible security arrangements for holding free, fair, and peaceful elections in the country. He clarified that the general elections will not be postponed.

The minister was briefing the media after a crucial meeting at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to discuss the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces.

“Elections will be held on February 8; no one should have any confusion on this,” Dr. Gohar Ejaz told the media after the ECP’s meeting.
He said that the Election Commission will ensure the polls are conducted on the scheduled date under any circumstances.

With a deteriorating law and order situation just days ahead of the general elections, an important meeting was held at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The IGs and chief secretaries of both provinces, Interior Minister Dr. Gohra Ejaz and Interior Secretary Aftab Durrani, alongside intelligence officials, attended the meeting.

The electoral authority is being provided a briefing on the state of law and order in the two provinces by the officials.

Earlier, Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said that general elections 2024 would be held on February 8, come what may.
Addressing a seminar in Karachi, Murtaza Solangi said the caretaker government was fully prepared to hold the upcoming general elections as scheduled.
He added that political parties clamoring for a level playing field must also ensure democracy within their ranks.
