ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government and opposition representatives reached out to Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Akhtar Mengal in an effort to persuade him to withdraw his resignation and return to Parliament.

A delegation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Omar Ayub Khan, opposition leader in the National Assembly, met with Sardar Akhtar Mengal, urging him to retract his resignation and join them in parliamentary efforts.

“We request you to reconsider your resignation and collaborate with us in a unified parliamentary struggle,” the PTI team advised Mengal, according to sources.

The PTI delegation proposed a joint constitutional effort through the opposition alliance. However, Mengal responded, “The situation in Balochistan is critical, and the decision to return is not easy.” He added, “The time for dialogue has passed,” and expressed frustration that the genuine issues of Balochistan are not being understood.

Later, a delegation from the ruling PML-N, led by Rana Sanaullah, also met with Mengal to persuade him to withdraw his resignation.

“His resignation was unexpected. As a senior and influential politician in Balochistan, we are keen to discuss the matter further and convince him to reconsider,” stated the PML-N leader.
