ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) will host a One-Day International Conference titled “Celebrating Pakistan’s Ancient Archaeological and Civilizational Heritage” on September 30th.
Pakistan, known as the cradle of ancient civilizations, boasts a rich, multi-layered heritage that spans millennia. This includes the remarkable Indus Valley Civilization and the Buddhist Gandhara Civilization. Notable sites such as Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, Taxila, Swat, and Takht-e-Bahi showcase the country’s pre-historic and historic significance.
The Indus Valley Civilization was contemporaneous with the ancient Egyptian and Babylonian civilizations, while the Buddhist Gandhara reflects diverse cultural influences and is recognized for its unique iconography. With six UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a wealth of artifacts, Pakistan’s civilizational legacy is deeply embedded in the global cultural narrative.
The conference will provide a platform for expert discussions and policy dialogues aimed at raising global awareness of Pakistan’s diverse heritage. It will focus on strategies for improved conservation, preservation, and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
Sessions will delve into the archaeological and cultural dimensions of this heritage from scholarly and technical viewpoints, fostering a deeper understanding and encouraging interfaith dialogue and harmony.
Participants will analyze various tourism models and international best practices that support local economies, enhance cultural heritage preservation, and offer enriching experiences for both domestic and international tourists, while promoting cross-cultural connections.
By convening esteemed international and Pakistani scholars, archaeologists, area specialists, and policymakers, the conference seeks to highlight the global significance of Pakistan’s ancient heritage and stimulate its potential for sustainable tourism development.
