ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar asserted on Tuesday that the arrest of former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan was carried out in accordance with the constitution of the country.

Addressing a press conference, Tarar mentioned that the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Aamer Farooq, took action as the arrest had been conducted on the court premises. He refrained from delving into specific details concerning the arrest location at the moment.

Tarar informed the PTI that arrest warrants were executed to apprehend Khan, a seven-member medical examination committee was formed to diagnose him, and it was up to the court to decide whether to send him on judicial remand.

As a lawyer, Tarar emphasized the supremacy of the constitution, urging cooperation for investigation, responding to notices, and answering inquiries. He added that the government had reviewed the NAB law and aimed to make it more justice-friendly.

Charges against Imran Khan

Tarar noted that NAB had followed appropriate procedures, despite the PTI’s accusations. He outlined the changes made to the NAB law during the government’s tenure and mentioned that the then-opposition had faced severe NAB actions.

In response to the PTI’s reaction to Khan’s arrest, Tarar expressed disapproval of violent protests, stating that civilized nations do not resort to such measures. He condemned these reactions and stressed that every Pakistani has a responsibility to conduct themselves in accordance with the constitution.
