ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met) has predicted cold and dry weather for most parts of the country, with some areas still reeling under severe cold and facing a severe shortage of gas and fuel.
However, the southern parts of the country, especially Karachi, are bracing for an early spring.
Minimum recorded temperatures
The Met Office recorded the lowest minimum temperature of -14 Celsius in Leh, -13 °C in Kalam, -08 °C in Astore, -06 °C in Gupis, -05 °C in Malam Jabba, Dir, Bagrote, -04 °C in Skardu, -03 °C in Parachinar and Rawalakot.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of the country.
Air quality due to weather
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met) in Lahore is 196 US AQI; in Bahawalpur, it is 158, and 213 in Rawalpindi. In Sindh, the air quality in Karachi is 165 US AQI, 153 in Mirpur Khas, while Islamabad’s air quality stands at 151. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, air quality is 163 in Peshawar.
Recorded temperatures
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a maximum of 11 degree Celsius (°C) temperature was recorded in Islamabad, 15°C in Lahore, 19°C in Karachi, and 9°C in Peshawar,6 °C in Quetta and 3°C in Gilgit.
