ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Murtaza Solangi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent general elections on February 8 next year.
Dismissing any potential delays, he said that the elections would adhere to the schedule set by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Talking to media, Solangi expressed confidence in Chief Election Commissioner Raja Sultan, emphasizing that he had the support of the majority, and there was no consideration of his resignation. Regarding internal political party matters, Solangi refrained from commenting, underlining the caretaker government’s commitment to maintaining amicable relations with all political forces.
Responding to queries about the termination of certain employees, Solangi explained that media channels had initially submitted feasibility reports to PEMRA, a requirement for license issuance. He highlighted the protection of journalist jobs under the PEMRA Amendment Act 2023, assuring that the government would take legal measures to safeguard journalists’ employment.
Solangi addressed the unpleasant situation concerning protesters from Balochistan, acknowledging the longstanding nature of their demands.
He assured that women and children had been released, and most men were also set free, with their protection being actively ensured.
The committee formed by the Prime Minister was engaged in addressing the matter, with ongoing consultations with the Governor of Balochistan. Additionally, a meeting of this committee with the Prime Minister was scheduled for the day.
