Pakistan’s Minister Pledges Swift Development for Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT: Pakistan’s Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engr. Amir Muqam, pledged on Saturday to accelerate development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan, leverage the region’s mineral resources, and prioritize its advancement.

Speaking alongside former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, and Member National Assembly MNA from Kohistan, Muhammad Idrees, at a local hotel in Gilgit, he expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He committed to increasing the capacity of the Hanzel Hydropower Project to 40 MW, a significant stride toward regional progress.

Highlighting Gilgit-Baltistan’s tourism potential, he underscored its status as a premier tourist destination. Directives were issued to expedite ongoing development projects to the Chief Secretary and other officials.

Concerned about frequent flight cancellations causing inconvenience, he announced plans to request the Prime Minister for C-130 aircraft deployment. Efforts are underway to secure constitutional rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, including judicial appointments to the Supreme Appellate Tribunals.

He praised the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for not engaging in the conspiracy to disrespect martyrs on May 9, 2023, emphasizing that true patriots wouldn’t commit such acts.

He reiterated the nation’s admiration for its armed forces and assured consequences for those responsible for the May 9 events. Responding to a query, he affirmed respect for all workers recognizing former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as their leader, advocating unity among PML-N members.

In a prior meeting with Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Gulbar Khan, Engr. Amir Muqam stressed the need to enhance coordination between the Gilgit-Baltistan government and the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan.

They discussed security, budgetary concerns, ongoing development projects, and wheat provision extensively. Engr. Amir Muqam assured full federal support for Gilgit-Baltistan’s development, irrespective of political affiliations.
