ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a terror alert and warned the government that terrorists are likely to target big cities of Pakistan ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest in Islamabad.

NACTA has intimated all relevant federal and provincial agencies about the terror threats. NACTA has asked all relevant authorities to enhance security arrangements.

According to a statement, many terrorists crossed the Pak-Afghan border and entered Pakistan on the night of 19 and 20 November.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has contacted PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and held a detailed discussion about the current political situation.

The development comes after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ruled that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest on November 24 is unlawful and directed the government to engage PTI leadership for an amicable resolution while ensuring the safety of citizens and foreign dignitaries.

Mohsin Naqvi also briefed Barrister Gohar about the engagements of the eighty-member high-level delegation led by the President of Belarus from 24th to 27th November.

He added that the Belarusian President will arrive in Pakistan on Monday and the delegation will remain in Islamabad until Wednesday. Barrister Gohar said he would inform the Interior Minister about the final response after party consultation.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah addressing a news conference on Saturday said that strict action will be taken against anyone participating in the protest in Islamabad as it has been declared illegal by Islamabad High Court.

He said anyone participating in the protest will be arrested and face legal consequences. He said that both Islamabad and Punjab Police have been given clear instructions that no one will be allowed to take the law into their hands or damage public property.
