ISLAMABAD: Since commercial flights began at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) on January 20 this year, the airport has witnessed significant growth.

Currently, five weekly flights run, three of them domestic (Karachi-Gwadar) and two international, connecting Gwadar with Muscat. During this period, a total of 16 domestic flights (32 movements) transported 361 passengers.

Moreover, four non-scheduled domestic flights (eight movements) and one non-scheduled international flight (two movements) have further contributed to increasing activity at NGIA.

Before the new airport became operational, Gwadar had just three weekly flights. However, from January 20, 2025, to February 20, 2025, the number of weekly flights increased to five.

Every Monday, two flights operate between Karachi and Gwadar and Gwadar to Karachi, and as many flights from Muscat to Gwadar and Gwadar to Muscat.

Spanning 4,300 acres, NGIA is Pakistan’s second-largest airport which allows to operate ATR 72, Boeing B-737, Airbus A-380, and Boeing B-747 for domestic and international routes. The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) officially opened to the public and all forms of commercial air traffic as the first commercial flight successfully landed at the airport on January 20.

PIA flight PK-503, departed from Karachi at 9:50 am and touched down at the state-of-the-art Gwadar facility at 11:15 am, carrying 46 passengers.
