Pakistan’s Parliament Condemns Desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden

ISLAMABAD: The joint sitting of Pakistan’s Parliament on Thursday strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and urged the international community to take strict action to prevent such deplorable incidents in the future.

The motion, moved by Federal Minister for Human Rights Riaz Hussain Pirzada, was addressed in the joint sitting of the Parliament. Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf chaired the joint session of the parliament. Lawmakers from the government and the opposition benches expressed deep distress over the unfortunate incident, stating that this disgraceful act has profoundly hurt Muslims worldwide.

Parliamentarians emphasized that no civilized society should allow the provocation and disrespect of religious sentiments under the pretext of freedom of expression. They urged the global community to take notice of this tragic incident and take effective steps to prevent similar occurrences.

Parliamentarians Ask Sweden to Take Strict Action Against Perpetrator

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmad strongly condemned the incident and called for strict action against the responsible individual by the government of Sweden. He stated that every Pakistani would participate in peaceful protests against the incident.

Leader of the opposition in Senate, Senator Dr Shahzad Waseem, expressed serious concern that such actions would increase feelings of abhorrence among different communities across the world and called for measures to avoid such incidents. He demanded an end to such occurrences and stated that playing with the sentiments of Muslims under the pretext of freedom of expression is deplorable.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani emphasized the need for interfaith harmony among nations for ensuring international peace. He asked the international community to take serious notice of the incident and take strict action against those responsible. He urged peaceful protests in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Federal Minister for Communications Maulana Asad Mehmood strongly condemned the anti-Islam act and called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice. He stressed that freedom of expression should not be used to hurt religious sentiments.
