Pakistan’s Parliament Resumes Sessions, Pays Tribute to Martyred Soldiers

ISLAMABAD: The upper and lower houses of Pakistan’s Parliament resumed separate sessions on Monday at the Parliament House in Islamabad, the country’s capital.

The Senate session was chaired by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, while Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq presided over the National Assembly session.

At the beginning of the National Assembly session, fateha was offered for the security officials who were martyred in a terrorist incident in Northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday that left seven soldiers of the Pakistan Army including a Captain, martyred.

Ali Muhammad Khan, Member National Assembly, led the fateha.

The ongoing sessions of the National Assembly and Senate were convened by Asif Ali Zardari.

The President summoned both Houses of Parliament under Article 54(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The government is expected to present the financial budget, scheduled for June 12, for the fiscal year 2024-25 during this session.
