ISLAMABAD: Polling for 48 seats in the upper house of Pakistan’s Parliament will be held next month second date.
As per the Election Commission of Pakistan, fifty-two senators, having completed their six-year terms, will retire tomorrow. However, elections will not be conducted for four seats reserved for the former tribal areas, which were abolished following their merger into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the 25th Amendment of the Constitution.
According to the country’s electoral body, elections will take place for seven general seats, two women seats, and two seats for technocrats/Ulema from each province of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. Additionally, two seats reserved for non-Muslims will be filled, one each from Sindh and Punjab.
Two senators will be elected from the Islamabad Capital Territory, one under the general category and one under the technocrat/Ulema category.
The Election Commission will release the election schedule on Thursday. Nomination papers for the Senate elections can be obtained from the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, as well as from the provincial elections commissioners in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
Candidates can submit their nomination papers to their respective Returning Officers on Friday and Saturday.
