Pakistan’s PM Aims to Bolster Public Sector with Private Talent

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting concerning the integration of technical advisors and consultants from the private sector into the Public Sector.

“Pakistan must build a world-class talent pool because this is an age where talent makes all the difference to a nation’s success” – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said while chairing an important meeting on ways to create a more capable workforce that is able to deliver the government’s policy programme effectively, and also is founded on the principles of impartiality and recruitment on merit.

“Implementing new strategies to attract and retain top-tier talent is crucial for Pakistan’s advancement,” said the premier.

The meeting focused on fostering a skilled workforce aligned with the principles of impartiality and merit-based recruitment to effectively execute the government’s policy agenda, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the necessity of establishing a world-class talent pool for Pakistan’s prosperity.

“The current era underscores the paramount importance of talent in determining a nation’s success,” he stated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed a committee led by the Finance Minister to explore and refine policies aimed at enhancing and clarifying the existing work pass framework across ministries to better accommodate Pakistan’s demand for skilled individuals, with directives to submit their findings promptly.

The meeting highlighted a lack of technical expertise at policy-making levels, underscoring its essential role in enabling the civil service to develop new capabilities, enhance project management, and adapt to the digital age.

Participants identified obstacles to recruiting external talent, including lengthy processes, inadequate candidate search procedures, and rigid pay structures hindering the attraction of top talent, particularly in areas experiencing skill shortages.

Finance and Revenue Federal Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Dr. Musadiq Malik, Ahad Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Sardar Awais Leghari, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Muhammad Jehanzeb, Minister of State Shaza Fatima, and senior officials were present at the meeting.
